Both models share the same lightweight chassis: 700–750kg tare weight (depending on build and accessories), with a 1,500kg ATM (aggregate trailer mass) and 1,380kg GTM. That's a genuine 750–800kg payload for water, gear and add-ons — among the highest in the Australian teardrop class — and it means even a fully loaded Hip Camper stays within the braked towing capacity of most mid-size SUVs.

Both Hip Campers models weigh just 700–750kg tare weight (depending on build and accessories), making them towable by most SUVs, wagons, and utes. Popular tow vehicles include the Toyota RAV4, Subaru Forester and Outback, Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson, and most dual-cab utes. Always check your vehicle's towing capacity — you'll need at least 1,500kg braked towing capacity.

Absolutely. Hip Campers are built with aluminium frames, fibreglass exterior walls with full thermal insulation, and hot-dip galvanised chassis. They're designed to handle Australian heat, dust, and rough roads. The 100W solar panel and 120Ah lithium battery provide true off-grid capability for remote camping.

Teardrop campers are designed primarily as sleeping and cooking spaces, not stand-up living areas. The Hip Summit is 2.0m tall and the Hip Companion is 1.9m tall — the interior sleeping area is cosy by design. However, the rear galley kitchen opens outward, giving you full standing access for cooking. Many owners pair their teardrop with an awning or tent for additional outdoor living space.

The Hip Summit ($22,500) is the premium model featuring a built-in skylight for stargazing, ceiling fan with LED lighting, and a larger sleeping area that fits 2 adults + 1 child. The Hip Companion ($21,500) is the compact model with a lower, more aerodynamic profile, featuring a side window with sunshade and blackout curtain, optimised for couples (sleeps 2). Both share the same off-grid setup, kitchen, solar, hot water, and towing specs.

Yes. Every Hip Camper comes with a 24-month structural warranty and a 12-month warranty on fittings and components. We stand behind every trailer that leaves our workshop. If you experience any issues with materials or workmanship, we'll make it right.

Yes! We welcome viewings by appointment at our Melbourne location. You can see both the Hip Summit and Hip Companion in person, explore the features, and ask any questions. Yes. All Hip Campers models are fully road-legal in Australia. They come equipped with electric brakes, LED tail lights, indicators, and reflectors as required by Australian road regulations. Each trailer is compliant with Australian Design Rules (ADR).

The Hip Summit and Hip Companion come fully equipped — no optional extras needed. Included: 100W solar panel, 120Ah lithium battery, 2000W inverter, 80L fresh water tank, 80L grey water tank, instant hot water heater, outdoor shower, stainless steel kitchen with sink, retractable awning, front toolbox, stabiliser jacks, electric brakes, spare wheel, and gas bottle mount. Custom builds are configured to your spec — inclusions depend on the options you choose in the 3D builder.

It depends on stock and where you are. If your camper is in stock, you're only waiting on freight — and if you're local to Melbourne, you can often pick up the same day. Custom builds take around 2.5–3 months for the build and fit-out, plus delivery time. Interstate delivery is free — we deliver to a depot near you, anywhere in Australia.
